The Mayor of Seville has inaugurated the extension of the Metrocentro route, which now runs between Plaza Nueva and the Nervión district, reaching the stop on Avenida Luis de Morales. This new branch involved a €24 million investment, financed 80% by European funds.
The tram's frequency along this new section is 9 minutes, and it takes 18 minutes to travel from the Plaza Nueva stop to Luis de Morales, or vice versa. It is estimated that around 12,000 passengers a day will use this service on weekdays, with a drop in passengers expected on Sundays and public holidays.
From 19 June to 31 October, the tram carried 1,168,544 passengers, 25% more than in 2023. Tussam once again broke its demand record by carrying 8.46 million passengers, the best October since 2003.
Two of the five new tram units ordered have been added to the line today, and the other three will arrive in Seville and become operational in February 2025. The project has faced some delays, particularly in the delivery of the five new trains by the Basque company CAF, which were initially expected by mid-July.
Attention is now focused on extending the tram to Santa Justa station. The Mayor has announced that he will present this project, which will cost €50 million, in the coming days.
